Pompey Darkroom × Pitt Street Skatepark

WIP WALL

Pompey Darkroom are excited to announce a new collaboration with Pitt Street Skatepark.

The WIP Wall is situated in the Pitt Street Kitchen and will bring opportunity for photographers and artists to share their work in a physical space to a wider audience. Traditionally opportunities to exhibit work have always been a challenge in the city so we are really pleased that this collaboration is happening.

The space is confined to 6 frames which we provide, however if time allows we can always do something slightly different.

Judging comprises a wide group from Pompey Darkroom, Pitt St and friends/artists outside of these organisations.

We welcome all applicants and are particularly interested in Portsmouth-based (and surrounding areas) photographers and those creating projects or consistent bodies of work. Pompey Darkroom will provide free curatorial and technical support to the selectee, as well as cover the costs of printing.

Submissions are now open for Winter/Spring 2025 with a deadline of February 7th 2025.

Please submit your images and statement via email/wetransfer/dropbox to submissions@pompeydarkroom.co.uk

FAQs

Could a group of people make one application?

We are happy for people to submit as a solo artist, pairs or groups, please note however that we are limited to 6 vertical/portrait frames in A2 size.

Is this opportunity free?

Submission is completely free, we will expect the candidate to provide the printed material however we can also support this with a heavily discounted print service. If finances are a barrier to entry for you please let us know in the email.

Can I take my prints back once the exhibition has finished?

Yes, however due to the nature of the space we can’t guarantee the condition of prints upon return.

How do I write a project and artist statement?

Keep it simple and sweet, don't feel the need to use complicated words, concentrate on what you do as a photographer and what the work is. That could be as simple as an exploration of a space, group, people and why you find it interesting. More support can be found here:
